Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery

Best Place is the former headquarters building of Pabst Brewing Company, the first of the great Milwaukee brewers and America's largest from 1874 until 1946. The brewery was established in 1844 by Jacob Best (the "Best" of Best Place) and was named for him until his grandson in law, Captain Fredrick Pabst, got control and renamed it for himself.

The Brewery closed in 1996 and sat empty until 2001 when Jim Haertel purchased the sprawling complex... on September 11th, 2001. As you might imagine the following years were a struggle and the stories of how Haertel and various partners kept it all from being demolished are fascinating. That's just part of what you learn and experience during the regular tours, often lead by Haertel himself.

Great care has been taken to ensure that Blue Ribbon Hall, The Great Hall, Captain’s Courtyard, Guest Center, King’s Courtyard, and the original Gift Shop have all been restored to their original glory. Today Best Place is one of Milwaukee's most sought after venues for events of all types. The vintage gift shop has an incredible selection of beer memorabilia, much of which you will find nowhere else.
